Stability / Shelf Life

Tablets of nitorglycerin are stable but should be dispensed in glass containers and protected from moisture, light and extremes of temperature.
Unstable; protect from light and heat.
Loss of nitroglycerin from plastic infusion set was greatly reduced when nitroglycerin was infused from glass syringes through high-density polyethylene tubing.
The stability is indicated as 48 hours at room temperature and seven days under refrigeration.
The rate of nitroglycerin hydrolysis becomes significant at low pH values and is also quite rapid in alkaline solutions. In neutral to weakly acidic solutions, the drug is stable. No loss was observed over 136 days at room temperature at pH 3 to 5.
