Acetaldehyde
CAS RN:
75-07-0
Major UsesFor acetaldehyde (USEPA/OPP Pesticide Code: 202300) there are 0 labels match. /SRP: Not registered for current use in the U.S., but approved pesticide uses may change periodically and so federal, state and local authorities must be consulted for currently approved uses./ Acetaldehyde is used in the production of acetic acid, acetic anhydride, cellulose acetate, vinyl acetate resins, acetate esters, pentaerythritol, synthetic pyridine derivatives, terephthalic acid, and peracetic acid. It is also used in the production of perfumes, polyester resins, basic dyes, in fruit and fish preservation, as a flavoring agent, an alcohol denaturant, as a hardening agent for gelatin, in fuel compositions, and as a solvent in the rubber, tanning, and paper industries. Reported uses (ppm):
Hydraulic fracturing uses a specially blended liquid which is pumped into a well under extreme pressure causing cracks in rock formations underground. These cracks in the rock then allow oil and natural gas to flow, increasing resource production. ... Although there are dozens to hundreds of chemicals which could be used as additives, there are a limited number which are routinely used in hydraulic fracturing. ... Chemical Name: Acetaldehyde; Chemical Purpose: Prevents the corrosion of the pipe; Product Function: Corrosion inhibitor. Both oil base and water base fracturing fluids are being used in the fracturing industry. Water base, which includes alcohol-water mixtures and low strength acids, make up the majority of treating fluids. The common chemicals added to these fluids are polymers for viscosity development, crosslinkers for viscosity enhancement, pH control chemicals, gel breakers for polymer degradation following the treatment, surfactants, clay stabilizers, alcohol, bactericides, fluid loss additives and friction reducer. /Hydraulic fracturing/ Acetaldehyde has been identified as being commonly used in hydraulic fracturing fluids Manufacturing paraldehyde, acetic acid, butanol, perfumes, flavors, aniline dyes, plastics, synthetic rubber; silvering mirrors, hardening gelatin fibers. Flavoring agent in foods and beverages. Fumigant for storage of apples and strawberries. ... Used in the manufacture of disinfectants, drugs, ... explosives, flavorings, lacquers, ... photographic chemicals, phenolic and urea resins, rubber accelerators and antioxidants, varnishes, vinegar, and yeast. Manufacture of acetic acid and acetic anhydride, n-butanol, 2-ethylhexanol, peracetic acid, aldol, pentaerythritol, pyridines, chloral, 1,3-butylene glycol, and trimethylolpropane; synthetic flavors. Used as an intermediate in the production of cellulose acetate, vinyl acetate resins, acetate esters, synthetic pyridine derivatives, and terephthalic acid. Other uses include: ... in leather tanning, as a denaturant for alcohol; in fuel mixtures; as a hardener for gelatin fibers; in glue and casein products; as a preservative for fish and fruit; in the paper industry; ... and in the manufacture of cosmetics. Chemical intermediate for ester production, particularly ethyl acetate and isobutyl acetate. Other significant derivatives of acetaldehyde include ... lactic acid. |
