Reactivities / Incompatibilities

Contact with aluminum chloride, boron trifluoride, or sulfuric acid may cause a violent exothermic polymerization. Contact with aluminum, magnesium, zinc (or galvanized metals) may produce similar results.
It has been found that allyl chloride...will react with benzene or toluene, even at -70 deg C, in presence of ethyl aluminum dichloride or ethyl aluminum sesquichloride. Explosions have been reported.
Incompatible with nitric acid, ethyleneimine, ethylenediamine, chlorosulfonic acid, oleum, sodium hydroxide,
Strong oxidizers, acids, amines, iron and aluminum chlorides, magnesium, zinc.
Friedel-Crafts alkylation of benzene of toluene by allyl chloride in presence of ethylaluminum chlorides is vigorous even a -70 deg C, and explosions have occurred.
The substance will polymerize under the influence of acid(s) heat and peroxides with fire or explosion hazard. On combustion, forms toxic and corrosive fumes hydrogen chloride. Reacts violently with strong oxidants and powdered metals causing fire and explosion hazard. Reacts with water to produce hydrochloric acid. Attacks plastic, rubber and coatings.
